Exterior

The first discussion certainly cannot be separated from changes in the exterior design of the latest Xpander. This soft touch can also be felt on the door trim which shows a combination of plastic material and stitches on the soft pad.

The main concern is on the 8-inch head unit screen which has smartphone connectivity, voice recognition, USB player, and iPhone/iPad/iPod connectivity and as a monitor for the rear camera. In appearance, the new Xpander head unit is ordinary but it must be admitted that the sound distribution is quite slick thanks to the presence of tweeters on the A pillar and speakers scattered in the cabin.

The meter cluster also gets an update on the side of the opening animation when the vehicle is started. Instructions for engine speed and speed still use the conventional needle which is clearer.

Another convenience that is present in the Ultimate variant is the electric parking brake feature with auto hold and a start stop button to start the vehicle engine. The Xpander also offers 19 storage spaces spread throughout the cabin. For the second row, convenience comes with a double blower for air conditioning, armrest on the passenger seat with cup holder, and a USB port for charging on the center console.

The second line problem also does not change with the previous model. The second row still offers ample room for the legs and head of the passenger. There is no difficulty for passengers with a height of 169 - 170 cm in the second row. The second row seats can also be adjusted back and forth and lie upright to provide comfort for third row passengers.

As an MPV with a capacity of seven passengers, access to the third row is quite easy. Passengers simply press the lever in the second row to fold the seat forward and give passengers access to enter. Although now the Xpander only offers P, R, N, D and L transmission modes, this transmission comes with an 8-speed simulation that makes the sense of shifting gears quite pronounced. Unfortunately there is no manual mode in this transmission as well as the paddle shift behind the wheel.

If the driver wants to get a burst of power to pass other vehicles, just press the S button on the transmission lever which will bring up the S (sport) mode. This allows the computer to shift gears at high rpm with the greatest force that can be felt. During the use of the New Xpander, the S button is the most widely used because it makes it easier when you want to accelerate quickly. 

During use for a period of one week with a distance of about 400 kilometers, the New Xpander shows consistent fuel consumption figures at 12-15 km per liter. This is due to use in the city, freeways with various conditions, namely traffic jams, stop and go and smooth.

This consumption calculation is also helped thanks to the presence of the auto start stop feature. This feature will turn off the engine when in a temporary stop condition such as at a red light with the foot fully pressing the brake pedal. The engine will restart when the brake pedal is released.

Convenience during the use of the New Xpander comes from the new electric parking brake feature which comes with auto hold. This feature makes it easier to stop by activating auto hold, no need to press the brake pedal continuously. Attention is needed on pressing the acceleration pedal because it takes adaptation to get the car moving again

Driving sensation

The discussion about the sensation of driving is preceded from the driver's point of view. The New Xpander provides a wide viewing distance thanks to the angle of the windshield that protrudes forward. This also affects the position of the A pillar which is not difficult in terms of blind spots when turning. The Xpander dashboard gives a spacious impression, especially on the front which has a wide distance. As mentioned above, the driver can easily adjust the driving comfort in this model thanks to the telescopic tilt setting of the steering wheel as well as thanks to the settings on the seat even though it is still manual using the lever.

The control is quite precise, coupled with the new steering wheel design, making the New Xpander driving sensation quite different from the previous model. Steering with electric power steering is able to translate the desire of the driver to maneuver quite quickly.

Seeing the dimensions of the Xpander which is quite long, which is about 4.5 meters, there are no difficulties when in traffic jams or want to park. The ability to maneuver when parking is assisted by the rear camera while the confidence to maneuver on narrow roads or traffic jams comes from a higher and wider perspective.

 This maneuverability also feels better with the use of Macpherson strut suspension with coil springs at the front and torsion beam at the rear. This suspension is one of the changes from the New Xpander which is now more rigid but does not reduce comfort. The profile does feel tougher and still produces body roll though not too much. This update on the suspension side is even said to use the same technology as the Pajero Sport, especially for the rear suspension which has the same diameter as the Mitsubishi premium SUV.

This convenience side is indeed a concern when using the New Xpander. When bulldozing potholes or bumpy roads, damping works well even though it tends to be hard. The most fun is when this MPV is invited to speed with a little maneuver, the stability is still felt.

The most interesting feature of course cruise control. Its ease of use also helps travel on the expressway. Just press the button on the right of the steering wheel, press the gas pedal up to 60 km per hour, then point the lever down, then this feature is active. The driver just raises and lowers the button to set the desired speed.

About the silence of the cabin, Mitsubishi claims to have increased the ability to reduce sound for comfort while driving. Sound from outside is counted as minimal leaking in the driver's area. Conclusion

It is quite questionable with this many updates, Xpander does not have All New status. The CVT transmission is also capable of translating the driver's wishes quickly for those who like to drive aggressively. Updates to the suspension also managed to make the driving feeling different from the previous model.

It is unfortunate, the difference with the naked eye with the previous model is not too visible. Relying solely on the shape of the lamp and LED technology alone, makes the difference from the outside with the old model insignificant.

In addition, seeing the updates from their tough rivals, namely the Avanza Xenia duo, the latest Xpander must move quickly. This includes responding to the trend of active safety features which are now more popular, which is under Rp. 300 million. Currently Xpander comes with safety features such as ABS EBD and BA, Dual SRS Airbags, ASC, and Hill Start Assist. 

The New Xpander Ultimate which comes with the most changes is now offered at a price of IDR 299.77 million on the Jabodetabek road. This price makes the latest Xpander not included in the PPnBM 2022 scheme, which until now has no technical guidelines. Riding Position Still the Same, But More 'Racy'

The first time sitting on it, the riding position is still the same as the previous model. The seat height is still 815mm. It's a little tiptoe, but not too much. Naturally, the height of the rider is only 173cm. When reaching for the handlebar type under york, the body is made slightly bent. Even so, the range is still tolerable.

At first it was a bit clumsy because I was looking for the location of the footstep. It turns out that the knee bends quite backwards. Understandably, riders usually carry scooters every day. But specifically for the R15M type, there are nuances that make it more 'racy'. Because he uses the upper triangle whose shape is inspired by the YZR-M1. When driving, don't expect much about the comfort sector. However, the role of the seat helps a little to support the buttocks. Interestingly, this variant has been wrapped in leather with a carbon look pattern. In addition, the large tank cover that pops up is able to accommodate the stomach and chest when carried at high speed.

Visibility is also still quite good. Especially the front cowl, able to protect the rider from the wind in front. And this of course has an effect on performance, especially the top speed scores that can be achieved.

Thanks to the use of slip-on type handlebars, the cockpit feels spacious. Although the front is quite wide, the turning radius is quite a lot. When you want to turn back, you don't need more effort. Easy to control and lightweight.

Stability Makes Confidence

Actually, there is no need to explain in detail about the stability of this R15M. Because the body structure is still the same as the previous model, still use the Deltabox frame. As we all know, the frame technology adopted is rigid and able to increase driving stability. And it was proven during the tests we did. Stability is maintained at both low and high speeds.

The use of an upside down suspension from KYB with a sport character is able to provide stability at high speeds. Moreover, it has been offset by monoshock rear shock absorbers with a sturdy and lightweight banana aluminum swing arm. Naturally, if he was ready to go down the track. For daily use is also not a problem. Devouring a variety of bends to be more steady. It's just that when passing a speed bump or on a bumpy road, the shock on the handlebars is quite pronounced, but still tolerable.

When taken for a leisurely stroll, this bike is quite stable and fun. Whereas for the 150cc class, the R15M has a weight of 140 kg. Because it is quite heavy, the effect at high speed does not feel floating. Besides, does this affect the succinctness of the maneuver? During the test, there were no problems when in the middle of a traffic jam. He still straightforwardly penetrates the narrow cavity between cars, motorbikes, and buses. It's just that you have to be able to predict when you are in the middle of a bigger vehicle. Because the mirrors used are quite wide. His agility is not much different from other Yamaha sport bikes. But because of the slightly bent riding position earlier, the rider gets tired quickly.

Good handling is also supported by the use of wide profile rims. 2.75-inch front with 17-inch rims wrapped in 110/80-17 tires. Rear 4 inches with the same diameter, wrapped in tires 140/70-17. Only if you want to feel good again, replace the tires that are a little wider. Yes, go up one step. Guaranteed, when taken cornering or when maneuvering, make the rider remain confident.

Genuine Motor Sport Performance

There is no doubt about the performance, although it is still the same as the previous model. According to Yamaha's 150 cc SOHC character, it excels in lower revs and acceleration. On paper, the pacemaker is capable of spitting out 19 hp at 10,000 rpm and 14.7 Nm of torque at 8,500 rpm. The compression ratio is 11.6:1, and the bore x stroke is 58 x 58.7 mm.

Testing impressions while on the road, in general there is no difference with the previous engine. When running at low engine speed, the graphics increase in power feels quite slow. This is useful for maintaining efficiency when driving in urban areas with stop and go conditions.

Breath each movement is also quite long. The power from the gas opening in each gear is responsive and can be felt at every engine speed. All that thanks to the variable valve cylinder head construction. As soon as you need maximum power, just twist the gas casing to 6,000 rpm, the original performance of the sport bike comes out right away. The valve adjusts immediately and is indicated by the appearance of the letter VVA above the tachometer. Power also throws more and acceleration feels faster.

While on a fairly quiet road, we tried to test speed. Yes, this motorbike is able to go up to a speed of 120 kph. Actually there's still some throttle opening left, but since this is a public road it's not good to go any further. This is just to conquer curiosity only. Overall the latest Yamaha R15 has a calm character but is ready to go wild if the rider wants it.

Guaranteed Safety Features

When we tried it, the embedded superior features were very useful. The first technology that we constantly feel is the presence of the assist and slipper clutch features. Very helpful when used for daily. It doesn't take more effort when operating the clutch lever, because it's light. Also useful when driving in traffic jams. While the slipper clutch is efficacious so that the rear wheels do not lock, even though lowering the gear when the engine is in high rotation.

Then Quick Shifter (up), making gearshifts smoother for city use. If in the circuit, of course, it can cut time during the process of shifting gears because there is no need to pull the clutch lever. But there is a little note for the manufacturer, at low speeds, the quick shifter which is already active at 2500 rpm still feels rough shifting gears. But if you have entered in high rotation, the work of this advanced feature is smoother.

Then it features a dual channel anti-lock brake system (ABS). In this test, we accidentally met a driver who immediately cut the lane. Immediately the rider makes a hard braking decision while at the same time balanced with an engine break, as a result, he can avoid danger. The motor lane can be controlled and the rear body does not move wildly. Oh yes, the R15M uses front calipers from Bybre (By Brembo). The response of the brake lever is softer with the bite force remaining calm but not surprising.

Not to forget the Traction Control System (TCS) which also contributes to a sense of security. It was proven when we passed the wet road after it rained. TCS performance is felt when there is a puddle of water around the corner. When you open the gas it turns out that the rear wheel almost slipped, that's where the feature works. Automatically reducing power, the engine immediately shuts down, so the rear tires can maintain traction. Almost!

Oh yes, besides there are features to ensure security and safety, there is one technology that we can't just forget. Yes, Y-Connect is also installed in this iron horse. Design

As we all know that the Yamaha R15M brings major changes in terms of design. Where the appearance of this 155cc sport bike is inspired by the MOGE R series.

The new look is most striking from the M-Shaped Intake Duct, which is an M-shaped air duct adopted from the YZR-M1 style. In that section there is one main lamp with an LED projector and there is also an addition with Twin Eyes DRL (Daytime Running Light) inspired by the YZF-R7.

The other side of the exterior also presents the aura of a big bike look. One of them is a full digital speedometer with a smart cockpit design concept inspired by the YZF-R1. The main concern at the Vario 160 launch event was clearly the presence of the new engine. Honda embeds a 156.9 cc 4 stroke 4 valve ESP + engine with liquid cooling that produces 15.4 ps of power at 8,500 rpm and 13.8 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm. On paper this engine is up 2 ps and the torque is up 0.4 Nm from the old model.

Interestingly, turning this scooter feels easy thanks to the combination of a larger lower rotation power supply, as well as a relatively comfortable driving position. There is no difficulty in turning the Vario 160 during sharp turns, the position of the rider's body is also easy to adjust the balance to the left and right.

The ease of handling is also more convincing thanks to the use of wide tread tires measuring 14 inches at the front and rear. The tire grip is quite felt on the hot asphalt track which makes turning confidence also increase.

The stability of driving the Vario 160 is also felt thanks to the use of telescopic suspension at the front and swing arm with a single suspension at the rear. Honda revealed that the rear suspension has been refreshed thanks to the use of a new frame.
