For Daily Use Honda ADV160, PCX160 or Vario 160?

In the middle of this year, Astra Honda Motor (AHM) presents the Honda ADV160. It is the latest scooter with a capacity of 160 cc, accompanying the PCX160 and Vario 160 which appeared first. Even so, they have a different market. Each of them also offers various advantages. But what if the three are compared to determine who is better off daily driving. Refer

Riding Position

According to Bangkit, one of the reviewers when using a Honda ADV160 from Puncak, Bogor, West Java via Cipamingkis to the Pulogadung area, East Jakarta, the driving position is quite comfortable. With a height of 172 cm plus wearing riding shoes, sitting on the seat of the ADV160 is no longer intimidated. There's still a little bit of jinjit, but it can be outsmarted by raising one foot to the footrest so that the other leg can tread perfectly on the asphalt.

Next is about the position of the hands when driving. He felt that the position of the handlebars of the motor was lower than that of the ADV150. But overall it doesn't change his character. The wide and straight handlebar design keeps the driving experience comfortable. The position of the arm can open perfectly and the journey does not feel excessive soreness.

Continued the Honda PCX160 which was tested by Zenuar while on the AHM Safety Riding and Training Center track, Greenland International Industrial Center (GICC) Deltamas City, Cikarang, West Java. First sitting on it, it is no different from the previous model. It's still the same. It remains to present a relaxed riding position. Both the handlebars, the position of the seats to the footrest are identical to their predecessors.

The contours and thickness of the seats are arguably just right. It's not too loud. The surface of the skin is also quite soft. Moreover, use the model of a stepped seat-separator between the driver and passengers. Make it feel comfortable to support the rider's buttocks. The position of the legs can also adjust to the wishes of the rider. Whether bent or selonjor, the deck is quite spacious.

Then the Honda Vario 160 which was also tried by Zenuar during the urban test ride session. According to him, the sitting position of this scooter is like the old Vario, but with larger dimensions. Ergonomic triangles are still identical. The seat is soft and the legs can tread perfectly. Naturally, the distance from the ground to the seat is only 778 mm and the ground clearence is 140 mm. With a rider height of about 173 cm, reaching this iron horse is easier.

Although the body looks widened, the composition of the steering wheel is the same as in the previous generation. When grabbing the handlebars, the position of the body is not too bent. Although the seats are fused, there is a small part in the middle like a hump, which can support the back of the rider's hips. Make the leg room area with a flat deck still quite spacious.

Handling and Suspension

The agility of the ADV160 when splitting congestion is quite exciting. Slippage is not a problem as long as you can estimate the width of the handlebars and rearview mirrors. Then Rose gave two thumbs up for the front suspension of the ADV160. In his opinion, it is quite tender, comfortable, and able to dampen the trunch very well. But unlike the rear suspension, the perceived subjectiveness is exactly the opposite of the front suspension. The character is louder, a little less comfortable when used on damaged streets let alone when it comes to sleeping police.

Actually, it's not a big problem, the plus point with the design of the harder rear suspension has an impact on the stability of the bike so it's better. When traversing winding roads with a slight damping style, the ADV160 gives a fun sensation.

Based on Zenuar's experience, the Honda PCX160 promises good stability when used daily or turing. Many factors affect it. Starting from the ergonomic triangle, use striped wheels aka different sizes and rear shock absorbers higher than the previous model.

Although the wheelbase is long and the body is large, going in and out of the corners is still agile and agile. Of course, it was helped by the presence of a new model double cradle frame. When twisting around the circuit obstacles, there is no sense of understeer or impression of the rear body being left behind.

While the Honda Vario 160 is relatively stable when carried at high speed on the straights. When winding around in traffic jams, the motor feels weak and easy to control. When the turn is sharp, the position of the rider's body is also easy to adjust the balance. All thanks to the chassis changes that now adopt eSAF technology.

The new suspension and wheels also help in terms of handling. The manufacturer claims that the rear shock absorbers have changed with a longer size. And so, during testing he felt rigid and fairly stable carried maneuvering. The rebound and compression setups are also made commuter-style defaults. Suitable for daily use.

Engine Performance

The Honda ADV160 that Bangkit tried did not have any problems when crossing the climb in the Puncak 2 and Cipamingkis areas. But when the uphill track is quite extreme, the power and torque boost is noticeably reduced. The tip is always to maintain the momentum of torque, gas openings, and brakes.

The layout of the machine can be relied upon when going through fairly damaged paths, sometimes rocks, slippery sand, uneven asphalt, to wet red dirt paths. The presence of traction control features on the rear wheels also makes the ADV160 driving experience safer. Meanwhile, when passing through smooth terrain, and minimal congestion, the power is immediately filled from the lower to the middle revs. But at the top engine revs, it will feel weakened, although the speed of the motor continues to increase.

When referring to the specification data, the Honda ADV160 is injected with an engine identical to the PCX160. It carries a 156.9 cc (rounded 160 cc) engine, 4 valves configured, and supports eSP+ (enhanced Smart Power plus) technology. Maximum power was recorded at 15.8 horsepower at 8,500 rpm, with a peak torque of 14.7 Nm at 6,500 rpm.

Honda PCX160 promises powerful engine performance. When it comes to the initial acceleration, it feels smooth at the bottom revs. But when it reaches the middle round, the push becomes more and more so. This is in line with the character of the overbore engine (60 x 55.5 mm), which is more optimal at high rpm. When trying it out at the AHM safety riding circuit in Deltamas, Cikarang, the lower pull felt smooth. But if it is above 4,000 RPM, this scooter is able to answer expectations.

For the record, the latest PCX carries a single-cylinder mechanical heart, 160 cc, SOHC, 4 valves, liquid-cooled and PGM-FI. Already using a technology called Enhanced Smart Power Plus (eSP+). On paper, he can burst power of 15.78 Hp at 8,500 rpm and 14.7 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm.

Based on the trials, the Vario 160's acceleration is very responsive. The power transmitted through the automatic transmission with a centrifugal clutch is immediately felt at the bottom revs.

When trying it on a fairly deserted highway, his breathing was quite long. Its power charges steadily from medium to high rpm. As evidenced by the achievement of the top speed at 122 kph. Even then, there is still gas left.

The performance of the new engine is significantly improved compared to the old model. Now it carries a 156.9 cc 4-stroke 4-valve eSP+ engine with liquid cooling. According to the manufacturer's data, he is able to produce power of 15.4 ps at 8,500 rpm and 13.8 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm. That figure provides clear evidence that the Vario 160's power is up 2 ps and the torque is up 0.4 Nm from the previous generation. During use, the performance of this sporty scooter engine is quite impressive.

Fuel Efficiency

Based on AHM's internal tests using the WTMC-Euro 3 method, a lift of 45 km per liter was obtained with the ISS (Idling Stop System) feature on. The ADV160 is able to cover a distance of up to 364 kilometers in one full refueling.

But when you try this bike with a mixed driving style, passing through damaged roads, climbs and derivatives, the fuel consumption obtained is higher than the manufacturer's claim. Moving as far as 125.4 km, Bangkit got a fuel efficiency figure of 49 km per liter (ISS on) based on information from the meter panel.

When testing on the highway with a distance of 100 km, the Honda PCX160 showed a figure of 41.2 kpl in mid. But when the method is full-to-full, the resultant is 38.9 kpl. Somewhat the difference is 2 km more. With a gasoline holding space of 8.1-liters. it can cover a distance of 315 km at a time. And if referring to the claim data (45 kpl), it should be up to 360 km more. Pull.

According to the results of full to full testing, the Vario 160, which has been used for 132 km, consumes 3.01 liters of fuel. We can assume, 1 liter is used for about 44 km. This result may be different, depending on how it is driven. And please assume for yourself, whether it is classified as economical or wasteful. For information, all tests used RON 92 type fuel.
