Don't be careless, these are tips for caring for a premium helmet!

Helmet, the most important riding equipment. Its job is to protect the driver's head in the event of an accident. Or at least minimize the risk of serious injury during a collision. So, choose a quality helmet, don't just choose.

Along with the development of the automotive world, helmets can also be one of the fashion accessories when driving. Especially for premium helmets such as Arai, Shoei, AGV, X-Lite, HJC, Suomy and many others. Head protection which is relatively expensive, of course, must be balanced with good care as well.

Don't be careless, these are tips for caring for a premium helmet!

Unfortunately, there are still many riders who seem to forget or even don't know how to properly care for a helmet. In fact, caring for your own helmet is very easy. So what should be paid attention to?

1. Clean the outside after use

This first point is very important. Clean the outside of the helmet after use so that dust does not stick too long. The tools and materials needed are also simple. What's more, everything can be done yourself at home. "There are no special tools, just prepare helmet cleaner fluid, cotton buds, and microfiber cloths," explained Herry Cahyadi, owner of THC Helmet.

Spray helmet cleaner liquid to the helmet area you want to clean. Then wash with a microfiber cloth. Then use a cotton swab to clean hard-to-reach parts of the helmet, such as ventilation holes. The goal is that the air circulation in the helmet is not blocked by dirt.

2. Clean the visor

The visor is an important component in the helmet that is susceptible to dirt, especially during the rainy season. This is not separated from the splash of the vehicle in front, causing dirt on the visor. "For the visor, it should be removed first, then cleaned with running water slowly so that the dirt that sticks out is released. Then give a special liquid visor cleaning made of organic materials. After that, use a cloth with a microfiber material so it doesn't scratch. It's good to wash in one direction," concluded Herry.

3. Keep away from direct sunlight

After use, it's best not to dry in direct sunlight. "There are still a lot of wrong riders here. Helmets after being used for a long time should not be directly dried in the sun, just open the visor and let it dry or put it near a fan," said the friendly man with glasses.

How to put it also should not be arbitrary. It's good to position it upside down by adding a special support device or helmet under it. This is to prevent scratches on the outer surface of the helmet. In addition, so that the heat in the helmet comes out.

4. Wash the helmet foam regularly

After the exterior, the next thing that must be considered is the cleanliness of the inside of the helmet. Wash the foam in the helmet regularly. It is recommended once a month or less. It all depends on the intensity of use.

How to wash it is also fairly easy. First, remove all the foam. Then soak the components in a container of warm water. The use of warm water aims to prevent the growth of bad bacteria, which can cause unpleasant odors and itching in the head.

“The more often it is used, the minimum washing is done at least once a week. Washing the interior is the most basic way of caring for a helmet. Keep in mind, the interior should not be washed using a cleaning detergent. However, currently there are many special soap products to wash the foam part of the helmet," said the man who is often called Koh Herry.

To dry it is the same as in point 3. "The most appropriate way to dry the inside of the helmet is, it must be aerated, open the visor and place the helmet directly under the fan," he added.

5. Spray helmet deodorizer

In order to be comfortable to use, it is good for riders who use premium helmets to regularly provide fragrance. “The interior is in direct contact with the hair and sweat of the head. Always try to give perfume so that when used there is no odor that can interfere with travel. And keep in mind, do not carelessly use helmet fragrance products. Try to find products that use anti-bacterial ingredients," he said.

6. Use a holster or helmet bag

The use of a helmet holster is also necessary so that your favorite helmet is physically maintained. Its function is to avoid scratches and dust. This method can be done anytime and anywhere. “But look for gloves or helmet bags with quality materials. Like Polar Fleece or materials commonly used for sweaters, they are soft so they are safe for helmets," said Herry.
